Jeff Johnson

Jeff Johnson / Co-Chief Executive Officer

Jeff Johnson serves as one of two Co-CEOs of Covario. Along with his longtime colleague Co-CEO Mike Gullaksen and CFO/COO Claire Long, the leadership team is responsible for the overall strategic direction and performance of Covario. Jeff in particular focuses on Covario’s worldwide client service, business development, and marketing operations, including new client acquisition, customer satisfaction, analyst relations, and corporate branding.

Jeff came to Covario in early 2009, bringing with him a long history of working with global enterprise brands in the digital marketing space. Prior to joining Covario, he spent many years at iCrossing as a senior vice president and managing director across various departments. Previously, Jeff served in leadership roles at AOL Time Warner, Homebuilder.com (a division of Homestore.com), and Trader Advertising Media.

He earned a BS in Business Administration from Arizona State University.

Michael Gullaksen

Michael Gullaksen / Co-Chief Executive Officer

In November 2013, Mike Gullaksen was promoted to Co-CEO of Covario, along with his longtime colleague Jeff Johnson. As Co-CEO Mike is responsible for the overall operational excellence, revenue growth, and client satisfaction.

Prior to his current role, Mike served as senior vice president and co-managing director, leading Covario’s paid and earned media teams in delivering the industry’s most forward-thinking search, social, and content marketing solutions. Mike has more than 14 years of specialized experience in SEO, paid search, social media and analytics. He has built a reputation for creating award-winning search teams, and developing proven search strategies that have helped numerous Global 1,000 clients grow their online business and strengthen their online strategy.

Under Mike’s watch, Covario was named the Search Agency of the Year by OMMA a record three years in a row (2013-11). It was also ranked by Advertising Age magazine among the ten largest U.S. search agencies (and the fastest growing of the largest ones). In addition, Covario was the only independent firm selected for inclusion in the last two Forrester Research Wave reports of leading search marketing agencies, which were published in 2012 and 2011. Over the course of 2013, Covario received its highest Net Promoter Scores ever – a key indicator of overall client satisfaction.

Mike also serves on the Board of Directors for SEMPO (Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization), helping drive clarity for today’s digital marketing professionals. He was named by BtoB Magazine in 2013 to its selective group of “Who’s Who in Search and Digital Marketing.” He was also recently named as one of the Top “40 Under 40” Marketing Executives by Direct Marketing News.

Before joining Covario, Mike worked at iCrossing for nine years, where he was the senior vice president of search. Mike holds a BS in Business Management from Arizona State University.

Claire Long

Claire Long / Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer

Claire Long serves as both chief operating and chief financial officer of Covario. Her role encompasses executive oversight of finance, accounting and risk management, as well as human resources, legal, information technology and marketing, in support of both the Covario search marketing agency and recently spun-off Rio SEO software business.

Claire has more than 20 years of financial leadership experience, including senior positions in the publishing, software, analytics, semiconductor, digital media, specialty retail, resort and telecommunications industries. Previously, she was the CFO of the San Diego Union-Tribune. Prior to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Claire served as the CFO of Visual Sciences (formerly WebSideStory), where she was instrumental in managing its successful acquisition by Omniture, Inc.

Claire earned a BS in Business Administration from the University of Hartford.

Jeff MacGurn

Jeff MacGurn / Senior Vice President

As senior vice president, Jeff MacGurn leads Covario’s SEO, paid media, content marketing, and analytics practices, providing strategic search marketing and social media services to Global 1,000 marketers and national retail clients.  Since joining Covario six years ago, Jeff has played a critical role in the development of the firm’s  search, content marketing and analytics offerings.  He has more than 15 years of experience in SEO, analytics, paid search, content marketing, social media, and software development.

During Jeff’s tenure with Covario he has played a pivotal role in helping the firm be selected as the three-time OMMA Search Agency of the Year (2013-2011), along with strong performer recognition in two Forrester  Research Waves of Search Agencies (2012 and 2011) and numerous other awards.  Under his leadership, Covario’s SEO, content marketing, and analytics team have grown to be one of the largest and most well respected in the digital marketing industry.

Jeff holds a BA in Communication from the University of California, San Diego.

Matt Kropp

Matt Kropp / Senior Vice President, Global Client Strategies and Project Management

As senior vice president, global client strategies and project management, Matt Kropp leads Covario’s global client service team and project management office (PMO) in providing the industry’s finest search, social and content marketing account management. Matt has more than 16 years of digital marketing experience in SEO, paid search, local search, social media and web analytics. He has built a reputation for creating award-winning client engagements that have helped numerous Global 1000 clients grow their online business.

Matt joined Covario in March 2010 as senior director, client services to leverage his experience in implementing search-centered solutions to help clients get the most value from their engagement with Covario. Prior to joining Covario, Matt was the managing director of iCrossing’s Chicago office, where he led the development and deployment of integrated SEO strategies for clients like Bank of America and Best Buy, two of the most searched brands on the web.

Collin Cornwell

Collin Cornwell / Vice President, Global Client Strategies

Collin Cornwell serves as vice president of global client strategies. He leads a global team working with Covario’s search marketing and digital advertising clients, driving strategic program development. He also provides thought-leadership in the areas of search, social, mobile and content marketing. Collin is responsible for ensuring the successful integration of earned, owned and paid media practices in order to produce measurable client results, ROI and customer satisfaction. He is widely recognized as a search marketing thought-leader.

Previously, as senior vice president of SEO at iCrossing, Collin was responsible for the agency’s SEO division and strategic accounts. His award-winning client work has encompassed SEO programs, in addition to paid search and mobile campaigns that have helped clients connect with customers and prospects at critical junctures throughout the search marketing funnel.

Collin also has creative and web design experience. He studied at Fort Lewis College, where he majored in computer science information systems.

LuRae Lumpkin

LuRae Lumpkin / Vice President, Global Paid Media Services

LuRae Lumpkin is a dynamic interactive marketing professional with over 12 years of online marketing experience.  She is a thought leader in the paid media space and writes, as well as speaks, for various publications and events. LuRae has worked with Fortune 500 brands across multiple verticals including Disney, Marriott, Sprint, Revlon, Warner Bros., Volkswagen, and many others.

LuRae has an extensive marketing background with a foundation in traditional media (i.e. television, print, radio, direct mail). In addition to owning her own search agency, she has held numerous senior positions including senior partner, head of search for MediaCom in New York; vice president, marketing for Qwest Communications; vice president, client and partner marketing for Click Action; and director, strategic planning for iCrossing.

LuRae holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Advertising from the University of Oregon School
of Journalism.

Cynthia Baker

Cynthia Baker / Vice President, Human Resources

As Vice President, Human Resources, Cynthia is responsible for overseeing all of Covario’s Global Human Resources Operations, including staff recruitment, retention, health and wellness benefits, stock and equity distribution, employee satisfaction, and training. In this role, she leads a small team providing support to more than 180 employees around the globe, including the United States, United Kingdom, Singapore, Japan and Canada.

Cynthia joined Covario at launch, in 2006. She has spent the past seven years building a best-in-class human resources organization that delivers value and respect to all Covario employees, while driving business results and growth. Cynthia brings over ten years experience, and previously held positions in both operations and human resource in the consulting and manufacturing industries where she was responsible for human resources, payroll, administration and facilities.

Cynthia holds the California Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) designation.
