The VP of Engineering will operate in a key role managing a portfolio of high-performing software teams building the industry’s next great applications and platforms. The role will encompass all the Company’s existing software products and operations, in addition to the new products, and will act as a key member of the executive team, reporting directly to the CEO.


  • Responsible for full Development P/L in the creation, recruitment, management and scaling of product engineering and development teams, including; engineering, QA, technical documentation, design, architecture, evaluating new technologies,  IP protection, and outsourcing.
  • Provide technical process discipline and leadership across the product software engineering, QA, operations and support teams
  • Ensure, process, platform, technology and approach consistency across Covario’s portfolio of customer-facing applications, their operations, technology vendors and suppliers
  • Establish current and long term objectives, plans and policies
  • Create technical budgets, project plans, allocate resources, and determine schedule of product releases or project deadlines
  • Manage product application hosting, monitoring, maintenance, ticketing, and related vendors, targeting 24-7 product uptime and cost-effective operations
  • Lead and manage a team of highly-skilled software engineers, database programmers, system administrators and web developers
  • Work in collaboration with Professional Services, Product Management, Account Management, Operations, Sales, and the Executive Team to identify the technology needs of current and future clients
  • Help create alignment between sales, product and professional services through an effective system of cross-organization communication
  • Represent Covario and be the voice of technology for the organization with major customers, shareholders and the public
  • Plan and direct all investigations and negotiations pertaining to technical aspects of mergers, joint ventures, acquisition of business, or sales of major assets
  • Build and maintain a high performance culture through effective performance leadership, communication and coaching of staff
  • Manage multiple projects, prioritize work and balance strategic and tactical issues, using agile/scrum and more traditional product planning approaches
  • Provide clear leadership that establishes credibility with peers, and employees and promote and foster a team culture consistent with the company’s values
  • Ensure development of the existing development team and oversee the recruitment of appropriately skilled staff to new positions as and when required

Required Skills & Experience

    • 4-year degree in Computer Sciences, Engineering or applicable discipline (Masters or PhD preferred)
    • 10+ years of development team leadership experience in the areas of enterprise Global 2000/enterprise scale software, solutions, web development, and online marketing
    • 3+ years of development of web analytics, CRM, advertising, search marketing, reporting, business intelligence or analytics solutions required
    • Proven experience with interactive web technologies and cross-platform environments
    • Proven experience with SaaS environments, including high-volume Apache/J2EE/MySQL stacks, and big data technologies, such as map-reduce and hadoop architectures, and general Open Source development background required
    • Proven experience in rapid, continuous product releases (every 2-4 weeks), highly preferred
    • At least 10 years in senior leadership roles with a proven and consistent history of leadership, knowledge and skills needed to drive projects and workflow throughout discrete stages of their lifecycle
    • In-depth knowledge of agile/scrum work management, and as well as more traditional strategic project planning methodologies and best practices
    • Exceptional in communicating complex ideas so they can be easy understood by all levels of the organization, as well as key stakeholders and investors
    • Highly developed negotiation, facilitation, and consensus-building skills to mediate priority conflicts in an effective and collaborative manner
    • Must work well under pressure, be sensitive to deadlines, be able to interact in a team environment, be able to adapt quickly to change, and possess good customer service skills
